Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most frequent questions that we have received. Every couple of months we update questions if they change. If you have a question please feel free to email us using the form at the bottom of the page.

Q: Can one make money as a independent nurse contractor by working solely by yourself?

A:Yes, I am not sure if you know this but….a travel nurse company or per diem company charges one nurse at $ 80.00-125.00/hr even if you are below that and charge your services out @ $65.00 which is very low still a great rate. In addition you charge additional for housing, and travel etc.

Q:What kinds of places would hire me and who would I market myself to?

A: It depends on what kind of setting you feel most comfortable in. I use this rule of thumb and it pretty much holds true, “Any place that hires temporary staffing, per diem or travel nurses  will hire me”

Q:  What is the average facility cost per hour for the RN and CNA?

A: This largely depends on the state and what part of the country you reside in. For example a registered nurse in Ohio working on a medical surgical floor might be making between $24.00 to $28.00 an hour. Therefore, the suggested markup would be $55.00-$60.00 per hour to bill the facility.

Q: Do we need to carry workman's comp insurance for our contractors or is this only required for employees?

A: This web site www.nso.com , talks to many health care related malpractice insurance issues and offers many tailored insurance options for health care professionals. Home care staffing nurses, certified nursing assistants and certified home health aides need to be bonded.

If you are keeping your staff as independent contractors, they will pay for the malpractice insurance.

Q: How anyone can start from the bottom?

Q. Do you know how I can find out if the business name I have chosen has already been registered?

A: There are many websites that offer free or inexpensive copyright and trademark searches. After the business is licensed, an attorney can help you copyright your business name and trademark your logo.

Q: Staffing only hospitals, nursing homes and clinics, and possibly a home health agency, if all of my nurses are contracted, is it required that I have workers comp insurance or do I have to pay unemployment tax?

A. In general, if the nurses are 'independent' contractors, you pay no unemployment tax or workmen's comp insurance. It never hurts to contact your state worker's compensation agency. An Idea is to subcontract your nurses out so each is classified as Independent Nurse Contractors. The carry own insurance and pay for their liability insurance and in return you can pay a higher rate.

Q: How is your package formatted and can I download it from the net?

A: It is a bound book containing 200 plus pages and a CD with forms and documents for easy editing and storing. Our manual has all the forms, documents and information that you will need. If there is a form or information that is not in the manual email us and we will help you to get these.

No, you can not download from net. I tried this in the past and too many errors in download process were occurring.

Q: What is the delivery time?

A: After your order is placed arrival time is 2-4 days. If you are ordering from another country is usually 6-10 days.

Q: Does your package have information on both: Working as an Independent Nurse Contractor and Starting up a Nurse Agency?

A: Yes, our manual provides detailed information on both.

Q: Will the overall Guide teach me everything I need to know about starting a nursing agency?

A: The guide covers the basics of starting a nursing agency. It covers topics and registering your business, choosing the entity whether sole proprietorship, LLC, or corporation. Then it goes in to the day to day operations of the business. As far as licensing goes, it covers the governing agencies you will be dealing with in order to attain a license to operate within a certain jurisdiction. One of the strongest and most important point of the guide are our contract forms, which has be catered specifically designed for the nursing agency. These contract forms alone if drawn by an attorney will run you hundreds of dollars not to mention the fact they will still charge you consultation fee. In fact, we have attorneys buying our guide so they don't have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to our custom tailored contract forms.

Q: Do I need to be a nurse to start a Nursing Agency, Nurse Staffing Agency / Registry?

A: No. You do not need to be an R.N. Nor do you need to be in the Healthcare Industry to open a Nursing Agency. A Nursing Agency is like any other business that would not require you to be an R.N. to own one.
